StaticRice 🍚
StaticICE is an Australian price-comparison search engine: type a product, and it crawls dozens of local retailers for the cheapest listing. It's been doing that since the late 1990s, and it's still genuinely useful for finding a price fast.
Where it struggles is everything after the search: results mix the product you searched for with bundled PCs and accessories, near- identical listings from different retailers aren't visibly the same card, shipping cost is hidden until checkout, and there's no sense of whether today's price is actually good. StaticRice is a narrow prototype of what fixing that could look like, for three example products, with a static snapshot of retailer data rather than a live crawl.
Each listing's "View at [retailer]" link and photo were pulled from that retailer's real, matching product page.
This prototype ships with three seeded products — RX 9070, RTX 5090, Arc B580 — not live search across everything StaticICE carries.
