An unsolicited redesign of a real site

Paperchain Bookstore

An independent bookshop on Franklin Street in Manuka, Canberra — books chosen by people who read them, a bookclub, and a shop worth walking into.

Why this page exists

This is a rebuild of paperchainbookstore.com.au, the real site, built by me — a fan of the shop, not by Paperchain. I like Paperchain: it's a proper independent bookshop that still curates its own tables and runs a bookclub, in an era when that's increasingly rare. But its actual website is an online-shopping catalogue first and a bookshop's front door second — the homepage is rows of product tiles (many showing a loading spinner instead of a cover), titles get cut off mid-sentence, and there's no page that just tells you who they are or how to walk in the door. The address, phone number and opening hours exist, but only in the footer or behind a link.

This version leads with that instead: who they are, what's on, and how to find them — three short pages instead of a shopfront. It doesn't try to sell books online; for that, the real site (linked above) already does the job.
