The reasoning, grounded

Why this redesign

Everything below is drawn from a direct browser screenshot of Kmart's own live Clearance range, plus the 11 grounded product pages used in the Deal Explorer. Nothing here is invented.

Current sorting vs. redesign sorting

Kmart Clearance today

  • Price: Low to high
  • Price: High to low
  • New
  • Relevance

Confirmed by screenshot — no other sort option is offered.

MARKDOWN adds

  • Biggest discount
  • Biggest saving

Computed from each product's own originalPrice andclearancePrice, never hand-entered.

10,000 products, one sort axis

“1–60 of 10000 Products”

That count is Kmart's own, read directly off the live Clearance listing. With a catalogue that size and only price, recency, or relevance to sort by, a genuinely deep markdown has no way to surface itself — it's easy for it to sit on page 40, buried among items that were already inexpensive. Sorting by markdown strength instead turns that same catalogue into something worth skimming.

Percentage discount and dollar saving are different questions

Ranking the same 11 grounded products by percentage off, versus by dollars off, puts different items first — using their real, screenshot-confirmed prices:

Sorted by biggest discount

Pretzel Ceramic Pen Cup

90.0% off

$5.00 → $0.50, saving only$4.50

Sorted by biggest saving

Air Fryer and Pizza Maker

$44.00 saved

$109.00 → $65.00, only about40.4% off

Neither ordering is wrong — a deep percentage cut and a large dollar saving are both genuine markdown strength, just answering different questions. Kmart's current sort menu can express neither.
