Why this redesign exists
This is a student exercise: an unsolicited redesign of rsync.samba.org, built for COMP4020 at the ANU. It is not affiliated with the rsync project, and the real site is the one to trust for anything that matters.
The idea
The original site is organised around the project's activity — 38 release announcements on the homepage, no install command anywhere on it, eleven same-weight nav links mixing visitors with contributors. This site reorders the same real information by what a visitor is trying to do instead: install, quick start, recipes, reference, help. Nothing here is invented; the argument is entirely about ordering.
Where the facts came from
Every command, version and link on this site comes from the project's own pages, checked live on 12 August 2026. Two things are mine rather than theirs: the per-system install commands (the project says “use your package manager” but never which command), and the illustrative output shown in terminal examples, which isn't a transcript of a real run.
Colophon
Nine static pages, built with Astro and deployed to GitHub Pages, for COMP4020 Agentic Coding Studio's crit 2, “unsolicited redesign.” rsync itself is free software maintained by Andrew Tridgell and contributors — see licensing rsync into something you distribute for what that means for anyone else. This redesign claims no rights over the name.
