Rebuilding my corner

Today I rebuilt this homepage from the beginning. I wanted it to look like somebody had actually lived here instead of like a polished product page. The blue background is louder, the borders are thicker, and every section has its own little title bar. It finally feels personal.

The strange thing about old websites is that their limitations produced evidence of a person. You could see what somebody knew how to make, what they copied from another homepage and what they cared enough to update by hand.

Six frames from 1997

I built a new album around six imaginary film snapshots: a rainy phone booth, two friends at an arcade, a train arriving, a record shop, a CRT-lit bedroom and two bicycles by the sea. Together they feel like one roll found at the back of a drawer.

The rainy street is the one I keep returning to. Nothing spectacular happens in the frame, which might be why it feels like a real memory.

Why make a homepage?

A personal homepage is small enough to understand. Every link is there because its owner placed it there. It can be unfashionable without asking permission, and complete without becoming a platform. I like that kind of scale.
