Hi, I'm just a fan of old movies who's been collecting favorites since I was a kid sneaking downstairs to watch the late show. This page is my personal shrine to the pictures I keep coming back to — the ones that still hold up decades later.
Why classic movies?
Give me a newsreel obituary, a zither theme, or a desert horizon over almost anything coming out this year. There's something about a picture that's survived fifty, sixty, seventy years of fashion and film technique changing around it and still lands the same gut-punch it did on opening night. That's the whole test for getting into the Archive: does it still work?
My rule for five stars: I have to be able to watch it again tonight and still notice something new. Four stars means I love it but I'd dock it for one scene, one edit, one choice I can't quite forgive. Anything under four doesn't make the cut for this page at all — I only keep the ones I'd actually recommend.
