Guestbook
a wall of messages, left by strangers, for strangers
None of this is free text. Every message a Soulslike lets you leave
for another player is built from a fixed base phrase with a blank,
filled in from a small closed word list — pick "Try ___"
and drop in "jumping," or pick
"Praise the ___" and drop in "sun." The same
handful of words recombine across thousands of players, which is
exactly why certain combinations became running jokes: the
system manufactured the repetition, not any one clever
person. This page archives it the only way a no-JavaScript site
honestly can — as already-signed, already-rated entries, the way an
old GeoCities guestbook still reads years after its last visitor.
