Week 3 Session: There Is More Than One Way to Trade
Mapping investing, swing trading and day trading against a student's own time, temperament and goals
Session
8 March 2027
A classification session: sorting a set of simulated trader profiles — and your own circumstances — against the three styles from this week’s lecture.
What you’re given
Short simulated profiles (available time per day, tolerance for watching a screen, and stated goal) for a handful of hypothetical traders, alongside the three styles: investing, swing trading, day trading.
What you do
Classify each simulated profile against the style it actually fits, then run the same classification on yourself — honestly, not aspirationally — and name one risk that comes with the style you land on.
What you produce
A completed classification table plus a short written self-assessment: your style, your reasoning, and one risk you’re accepting by choosing it.
Why it matters
This self-assessment is background for the Market Mechanics Notebook, due this week; it doesn’t itself carry marks, but Weeks 6 and 7 assume you know which style you’re building toward.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- can state which of investing, swing trading or day trading best fits their own circumstances, and why
- can name one risk of the style they picked
