Two pieces of written work, both marked on the quality of the record rather than the size of the loss.
Two pieces of work. The first accounts for one loss; the second decomposes the whole semester.
Neither is marked on your outcome. A student who finished ahead and a student who lost everything are read the same way, against the same question: can you show, from your own numbers, which mechanism took which dollar? A loss of $4 you can account for to the cent is worth more here than a loss of $400 you cannot, and a gain is worth nothing at all as evidence — which is the argument the last week of the course makes at length.
Both read from the same two documents you keep from the first session onwards, and the formats are on the records page.
Loss report
One named failure mode, one position it happened to, and the arithmetic that connects them — the first half of the course, submitted as a subtraction.
