Week 9 Tutorial: Negotiate the Bins A structured Nash-bargaining role-play over a shared-resource dilemma
24 April 2028
Before the tutorial#
No written prep. Come ready to negotiate, seriously, with a stranger.
In the tutorial#
Paired role-play: two people who share a household resource (chores, a
budget, a schedule) with genuinely different preferences and outside
options, assigned on cards you don’t choose. Negotiate a split, then write
down both the split and each side’s outside option, and check the split
against what Nash bargaining would predict.
Afterwards#
Pairs that got stuck almost always got stuck on outside options, not on the
resource itself — worth returning to when you write Assignment 2.
