Pick a market you’ve actually dealt with — not romance — and think about
where it got difficult. Not “it was annoying,” but where specifically:
finding options, telling good ones from bad, agreeing on terms. The
residency-market case from lecture is one example of a market failing;
it’s illustration, not a template you need to match — housing, hiring,
and college admissions all work just as well, and so does one nobody’s
used yet.
Small groups, each presenting one market for two minutes: what’s being
allocated, who wants it, and where the friction sits. Costa (or whoever’s
running the room) pushes for the specific mechanism, not the vibe.
The market you picked becomes your running example for the next few weeks
— when a lecture introduces a new concept, you’ll be asked whether it
shows up in your case, so the concept never stays abstract for long.
