Week 2: Translating the Push
What a physical button gives for free — resistance, travel, a click, a physical return — and what a digital button has to fake or drop.
1 March 2027
Every physical cue a real button gives — resistance, travel, click, return, tactile confirmation — has to be simulated or abandoned once the button is a rectangle on glass. This lecture sets out what each cue is for, before the session asks you to rebuild one specific button and admit what you had to fake.
Outline#
- five physical cues a real button gives, and the job each one does
- which of those a touchscreen can simulate, and in which channel — colour, sound, motion
- what the session asks: pick one button from your Week 1 log, build the smallest working digital version, and log what you faked or dropped
