Week 12 Lab: Final Defense
Present and defend your integrative redesign against the six constraints and the course's throughline claim
10 May 2027
Before the lab#
Bring your finished redesign from week 11’s studio: the product, the packaging concept, and your notes on all six constraints.
In the lab#
- Present — a short presentation of your redesign: the product, what changed, and which of the six constraints from week 11 drove the biggest decisions.
- Locate it — state which of week 1’s three logics (brand experience, logistics cost, compliance) your redesign leans on most, pointing to a specific physical feature as evidence, not a general description of the product category.
- Defend a trade-off — pick the one constraint you traded away or downweighted the most, and defend why that was the right call for this specific product, under questioning from peers.
- Answer the throughline claim — state, in one sentence, whether your own semester’s work supports, complicates, or refutes the course’s central claim that sustainability language is mostly marketing while cost and liability formulas do the real work — and name the single piece of evidence from the semester that most shaped your answer.
Afterwards#
This session is the final project’s defense component — see the Assessments page for the full marking approach.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you can state which of week 1's three design logics your redesign leans on most, and defend that against a specific physical feature of your own redesign — not a general description
- you can answer, for at least one constraint you traded away or downweighted, why that trade-off was the right call for this product specifically
- you can say, in one sentence, whether your semester's work supports, complicates, or refutes the course's throughline claim, and point to the one piece of evidence — a formula, a standard, a data source — that most shaped that answer
