Midterm
A closed-book written exam covering the first six weeks, from hand combinatorics through Bayesian range reading.
Due: 9 April 2027 · Weight: 20%
The brief#
Under exam conditions, do by hand what the weekly assignments let you do with time to think.
The midterm sits in week 7 and covers weeks 1 through 6: combinatorics and combo counting, exact hypergeometric equity, pot odds and EV, position and information value, and range reading as Bayesian updating. Questions look like the weekly assignments — one computed quantity, working shown — but under time pressure and without notes beyond a supplied formula sheet, to test that the method is understood rather than looked up.
What you submit#
Written answers in the exam booklet, in the room, in the scheduled slot. No submission format to choose — showing up with a pen is the format.
The spec
The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
- sat during the scheduled slot named above
- final answers are correct
- the method used to reach each one is shown, not just asserted
