Late work, extensions, academic integrity, and a note on this course's subject matter.
Policies and support#
Late work and extensions#
Written work is due at noon on its listed date. Work submitted within 48 hours of the deadline is accepted with a 10% penalty per day; after that, contact May directly rather than submitting late. Extensions are easy to arrange in advance of a deadline — email before it passes, not after.
Academic integrity#
Every essay must be your own argument, in your own words, with any assistance (including generative AI) declared in a short note at the end of the submission. Watching the assigned episodes is non-negotiable: an essay that could have been written from a synopsis rather than the drama itself will be asked to be resubmitted.
Attendance#
Screenings are discussion-based and don’t repeat well from notes. If you miss one, watch the drama on your own before the following week and email a short note on what you took from it.
A note on subject matter#
Several weeks — gender and sexuality (week 5), colonial-period history (week 8), materialism (week 10), and appearance and cosmetic surgery (week 11) — handle sensitive or contested material. These weeks are framed explicitly to avoid stereotyping or reducing Korean society to a single claim; if you have concerns about a specific week, raise them with May beforehand.
Getting help#
Email for anything that can wait; raise anything urgent in the screening itself. See the people page for contact details.
