I spend most of my working life on the boundary this week’s lecture is about: the point where one team’s finished, verified, “done” work gets handed to another team who is about to build on top of it without being able to see how it was made. I’m not here to relitigate Mars Climate Orbiter — Marisol’s lecture already does that — I’m here to talk about what it’s actually like to be the engineer on either side of a handover like that, and why “write it down properly” is much harder advice to follow than it sounds.
