Week 12 Workshop: Structuring "Was It a Sign?"
Turning one real, personally significant moment into a structured piece of writing, before the semester's final deadline arrives.
Field session
18 October 2027
Every earlier assessment in the semester practises one piece of the method: noticing (Pattern Diary), taking a single case apart (Meaning Autopsy), and building the machinery behind a reading (Build an Oracle). The final project asks you to run the whole method on the moment in your own life that felt most like fate, and to write both halves honestly — what it felt like, and what you can now say about why.
Before the workshop#
Choose the moment. It doesn’t need to be dramatic — a smaller coincidence that’s stayed with you is easier to write about honestly than one you’ve already turned into a polished story.
In the workshop#
Wren and Sanjay run a joint structuring session: a short framework for splitting the piece into what you believed at the time and what you believe now, followed by one-on-one time to plan the specific frameworks from the semester you’ll bring to bear on your own case.
Afterwards#
Write. The most common failure mode in past final projects is skipping straight to the tidy explanation and losing the honest first half — what it actually felt like, before you knew the trick.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you have chosen the one moment your final project will be about
- you can state what you believed at the time, separately from what you believe about it now
- you leave with a one-paragraph plan covering both halves of the brief
