Policies and support#
The course-wide rules for late work, extensions, academic integrity and getting help.
Late work#
Work submitted after the deadline loses 5% of the available mark per day, capped at five days. After five days a submission is marked as a fail unless an extension has been granted. This applies per-assessment, not per-course — a late Assignment 1 doesn’t affect your Assignment 2 deadline.
Extensions#
Extensions are granted for illness, misadventure, or documented hardship, and should be requested before the deadline where possible. Fieldwork-based assessments (Assignments 1 and 2) can usually accommodate a short extension without penalty, since the machine you’re studying isn’t going anywhere; the final project’s deadline is fixed against the semester’s end and extensions past it are rare.
Academic integrity#
The walkthroughs, incentive maps and teardowns in this course are meant to be your own fieldwork — your own machine, your own transaction, your own evidence. Discussing a machine with classmates is encouraged; submitting someone else’s fieldwork as your own is not. Declare any assistance, including AI tools, in line with the university’s standard declaration requirements.
Getting help#
Idris runs all twelve weekly tutorials and is the first port of call for anything fieldwork-related — stuck on a machine, unsure what counts as a strong walkthrough, need a second opinion before a studio. Marisol delivers the lectures and sets the incentive question each one answers; email her for anything conceptual that can wait until next week. Contact details for both are on the people page.
