Week 11 Tutorial: Design studio
Choosing and specifying the mechanism each student will redesign for the capstone
Graded checkpoint, checked live at the start of the session · Weight: 2%
Before the session#
Choose the one piece of a dispatch or pay system you intend to redesign for the capstone — not a category of mechanism, the actual one. State in a single sentence who bears the cost of how it works today, and name which regime studied this semester you expect to raise the hardest objection to whatever you propose.
In the session#
One-on-one studio time with the teaching team to pressure-test each chosen mechanism before committing to it — the goal is to catch a brief that’s too broad to defend (a scoring system in general) before you’ve written a full proposal around it, and to name the strongest objection a Chinese, Australian, or EU regulator could raise before week 12 forces you to answer it in writing.
Afterwards#
Your chosen mechanism should be locked in before week 12 — switching late costs you drafting time you won’t get back.
The spec
What you bring to the session, checked live: a checkable minimum plus one item that's judged by discussion, not marked for prose.
- names one specific dispatch or pay mechanism as the redesign target
- states, in one sentence, who currently bears the cost of how that mechanism works now
- names which regime's likely objection (China, Australia, or EU) you expect to be hardest to answer
