Week 5 Tutorial: Resistance tactics seminar
Comparing individual and collective rider workarounds, and what each provokes from the platform
Graded checkpoint, checked live at the start of the session · Weight: 2%
Before the session#
Find one documented example of riders working around a dispatch or scoring mechanism — running multiple apps at once, coordinating a slowdown, gaming a batching window, sharing a route shortcut. Note where the platform pushed back, if it did, and whether the tactic was something one rider did alone or something riders organised together. Bring the source, not just the anecdote.
In the session#
Seminar discussion building a shared list of tactics, sorted into individual versus collective, with the platform’s documented or likely response next to each — surfacing the asymmetry the lecture named.
Afterwards#
Note which side of the asymmetry your capstone mechanism (week 11) will fall on — it’s worth deciding early.
The spec
What you bring to the session, checked live: a checkable minimum plus one item that's judged by discussion, not marked for prose.
- one documented rider workaround, with a source (article, report, or field account) named
- the platform's actual or documented likely response to that workaround is stated
- the workaround is labelled individual or collective, and compared against at least one tactic of the other kind
