Case 03 — The text workup
Applying independent textual checks to the same passage, and reconciling it when they disagree
8 March 2027
Assignment 1 is due today. This session is half clinic, half trial: bring your workup, then swap with someone who ran the same passage through different checks than you did.
Before the session#
Submit Assignment 1 before the session starts. Bring a printed or on-screen copy of your own workup — you’ll need to walk someone else through it without narrating your Google Doc over their shoulder.
In the session#
Pair up with someone whose verdict differs from yours on at least one case from the practice set. Each of you has three minutes to argue your reading. The rest of the room votes, then we look at what the room actually knew versus assumed.
Afterwards#
The votes aren’t your grade — your submitted workup is. But a room that confidently votes for the wrong verdict is exactly the failure mode this course exists to prevent, and it’s worth sitting with before week 4 raises the stakes to images.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- your Assignment 1 submission is in, applying at least two independent textual checks to the same passage
- you can defend your verdict to a classmate who was assigned to disagree with it
