Founding convenor of SLOP2758. Spent a film-studies career on melodrama before deciding degraded generative video needed the same seriousness and none of the prestige.

Marisol trained in classical film studies, wrote a dissertation on melodrama’s formal conventions, and then noticed that nobody was doing the equivalent work for six-fingered hands and morphing logos. SLOP2758 is the result: the same close-reading habits her supervisors taught her for Douglas Sirk, redirected at a genre that didn’t ask to be taken seriously and is getting taken seriously anyway.

Her published work tracks the tells that separate one slop archetype from another — the affectless narrator, the too-smooth voiceover cadence, the physics that almost holds — and argues, deadpan, that a genre defined by its errors is still a genre, with a history, an economics, and a canon. She maintains that this is the least embarrassing thing to have specialised in, and will defend that position on request.

Office hours run Tuesdays; the sign-up sheet is on the course noticeboard, not this page, because rooms change and this page shouldn’t need editing every time they do.
