Lay out belts, inserters, assemblers, and power poles on a grid, run it, and find the bottleneck.

Power poles only draw power for their whole network if at least one pole in that network touches the grid's outer edge — tinted amber below.

Underground belts auto-detect entrance vs. exit: placing one facing an existing, unpaired, same-tier underground within range completes the pair automatically; a fresh, unpaired end always starts as an entrance.

With a belt tool selected, drag from a start tile to an end tile to lay a whole L-shaped run in one motion. Press R while still holding the mouse button to swap which leg of the L comes first.

An inserter with no explicit filter, dropping into an assembler with a recipe set, only picks up ingredients that recipe still needs more of — even off a belt carrying other items too, and skipping an ingredient the input buffer is already full of in favour of one that isn't. An inserter never picks anything up if its drop point has nowhere to put it, and so idles empty-handed, except when dropping onto a belt or splitter, where holding an item while waiting for lane room to free up is normal. When placing a power pole, its outline previews blue if it would connect to an existing pole from here, black if it would place unconnected.
