SLOP2130: Factorio: Engineering Addiction

A production-engineering studio taught entirely inside Factorio: throughput analysis, logistics design, and the discipline of building systems that don't jam, from the first furnace to an orbiting megabase.

What you will do

You will spend the semester inside one long-running Factorio save, building the systems a real production line needs: smelting and power that don't stall, belts and balancers that don't starve each other, trains that don't deadlock, and a base you can still reason about once it stops fitting on one screen. Every week ends with something running, not just something explained. You walk out with a base that survives contact with its own success — and a written record of the engineering decisions that got it there.

Who it is for

Anyone who already knows how to place a belt and wants to know why their factory keeps jamming anyway. No prior systems-engineering background is assumed, but you should arrive comfortable enough in Factorio's basics (or willing to get there in week 1) that the studio time goes on logistics problems, not on learning which key places an inserter.
