Dora has asked strangers for things in more languages than she’s fluent in — a lift out of a town with no bus timetable, a spare tent peg, the last seat on a night train she definitely didn’t have a ticket for. Most of those asks got a no; she’s still here, so clearly that’s survivable. Crossing 4 is the one students dread most going in, and Dora treats a knockback as data, not a verdict: ask, get told no, ask the next person, adjust the ask — that’s a Tuesday, not a crisis. She won’t pretend rejection doesn’t sting, only that the sting fades a lot faster than students expect.
