Convenor of SLOP2895, and the author of the course’s four failure families — which she is careful to describe as a teaching classification rather than a finding.

Her interest is in structures nobody thinks of as structures: the ones assembled without drawings, loaded without calculation, and disposed of before anyone asks why they failed. The sandwich is the compact case. It has layers, interfaces, a declared use, a service life measured in minutes, and a failure mode that destroys its own evidence.

What to bring her

Questions about the shape of the course, about whether a load case is defensible, and about marks. She would rather see an honestly documented failure than a successful test with no protocol behind it, and says so in every Week 1 lecture.

Consultations

Week 4 and Week 9, in the laboratory, immediately after the session. These are the two points where a declared variable is most often the wrong one, and the cheapest time to find that out.

If a physical specimen is not a route you want to take, say so at any point. No reason is required and none is asked for.
