Runs the laboratory sessions and maintains the test stations — the compression bench, the slippage ramp, the moisture overlays and the transport rig.
He also assembles the supplied evidence pack: the timed photographs, measurements and failure cases that let a student complete any activity in this course without handling food. Requests for it never need a reason.
What to bring him#
Anything about apparatus, measurement or route. In particular:
- a reading you are not sure you took correctly;
- a specimen that failed before the test started;
- a variable you cannot work out how to hold constant;
- a preference for a non-food analogue or the supplied pack.
On measurement#
His standing correction, delivered roughly weekly: a number without its condition is not a measurement. The condition is the elapsed time, the load step, the ambient temperature, the specimen dimensions, and who read the instrument. He will ask for all five.
The uncertainty is part of the reading, not an admission about it.
