Jimi designed this course around a single premise: that “guitar tone” is usually discussed as a matter of taste when most of it is actually a matter of physics and signal processing that can be taught, measured, and reasoned about directly. The twelve-week structure — string, pickup, gain stage, clipping, filter, amplifier, cabinet, and the ear, in that order — is Jimi’s answer to “what would it look like to teach tone as engineering?”

As convenor, Jimi owns the shape of the course and each week’s central question, and is the person to escalate to if something about the course itself — not a specific piece of work — isn’t landing. Jimi also tutors the opening and closing stretches of the semester directly: the weeks that set up the whole chain and the week that reasons back across all of it.

Consultation: email for course-level questions (structure, assessment weighting, anything that affects more than your own work). Feedback on your own work in progress belongs in the weekly session, with the tutor running it — that’s where it gets seen alongside the concept it’s building on.
