Background in instrumentation, which in this course mostly means arriving at somebody’s beautiful experimental design and asking how long a single reading takes. If the honest answer is four minutes, the design is already dead and it is better to know in week 2.
Marks the protocol portfolios. The thing most often lost there is not rigour but legibility: a record that made complete sense to its author in March and is unreadable to them by May.
