Week 5 Session: Seminar: Confess Your Overtime
A closed-room session benchmarking self-reported hours against verifiable output — separating activity from impact
22 March 2027
Before the session#
Track one week of your own hours against this course, or against a job. Tag each hour as “impact” (produced a verifiable result) or “visibility” (was observed in the act of working).
In the session#
Anonymous tally on the board: total hours logged versus hours anyone can attribute a result to. The delta is this week’s key finding.
Afterwards#
This is the last session before the two-week break. Carry your key finding into week 6 — Assignment 1 is due that week, and presenteeism remains a high-confidence candidate instance if you haven’t finalised one yet.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you can decompose one week of your own hours into impact hours versus visibility hours
- you can forecast the delta in your own workload under a zero-visibility counterfactual
