Designs the syllabus, delivers every lecture, runs every seminar, and marks every submission, alone. Other courses split this across a convenor, a lecturer, and a tutor. This one used to as well, until he covered the founding convenor’s seminars during her leave, kept them the following semester, absorbed the even-week crits the year after that, and the department noticed the course had been running on one contract for eighteen months with no complaint on file. Two positions were not renewed. The workload was never redistributed, because by then there was no one left to redistribute it to.
卷王 (juanwang) is not a title anyone claims; it is what the people still in the competition call whoever set the new floor — see week 3. By that definition the position is his, and the course lists it because a syllabus that spends twelve weeks teaching students to name the mechanism should be able to name it on its own staff page.
No office hours roster to check, no “ask the tutor” versus “ask the convenor” — every question goes to the same inbox, answered by the same person who wrote the question that prompted it, and who is the reason there is only the one.
