Tuning

Nine strips, tuned to a C major pentatonic scale running from C4 up to G5. That scale leaves out the two degrees that can sound sour against the others, so any combination of these notes is consonant --- held together, they are a chord.

Where you strike a key sets a lowpass filter, swept exponentially from 400 Hz at the foot of the strip to 6 kHz at the head: low is mellow, high is bright. Playing with the keyboard, the arrow keys move that same strike height.

Every sound is synthesised live through the Web Audio API --- an oscillator, a filter and an envelope per voice. There are no recordings in this page.
