Light rail stage 2B: utility works start on Adelaide Ave

Night works begin this week between Yarra Glen and Hopetoun Circuit, the first visible sign of construction on Stage 2B of the light rail extension to Woden. Crews will be relocating stormwater and telecommunications lines currently running under Adelaide Avenue, ahead of track-laying next year.

Expect lane closures between 9pm and 5am on weeknights through the end of the month. Buses on the 59 route are on detour for the duration, adding roughly ten minutes to the trip through Yarralumla — Transport Canberra says updated timetables are on its website, not on the printed stops.

This is the first of several utility-relocation packages planned for the corridor before the main construction contract is awarded. The ACT government says it expects to announce that contract, and a firmer timeline for the rest of Stage 2B, before the end of the year.

Residents along Adelaide Avenue can expect noise notifications by letterbox drop 48 hours before works start on their block; anyone who misses one can call the project's contact line, listed on the Transport Canberra project page.
