Here Comes a New Challenger!
Game Trilogy, part I
The 2017 EP "Here Comes a New Challenger!" opens the band's "Game Trilogy." Its four tracks — including "Electronic Girl" — mark the band's return with new drummer Zheng Zili and guest musicians, continuing Chinese Football's recurring themes of youth and frustration.
"Electronic Girl" was later reworked into its own standalone 8-bit remix single. The EP was recorded and mixed by Qin Yang, with artwork by the band's longtime illustrator Space; beyond Zheng Zili, guest musicians filled in on select tracks — Xia Chao on drums for tracks 1 and 4, Zhu Ning on drums for track 3, and Wang Wei on saxophone for track 4. The label's own description frames the "game" as a multiplayer one: a challenger can be a rival or a companion, and the point isn't necessarily to win, but to have actually played.
