Experts warn hard drives may someday exceed one gigabyte

Storage analysts are cautioning consumers against a coming wave of hard drives holding "as much as a full gigabyte" of data, warning that most households will never realistically fill one.
"Between your homepage, your favorite MIDI files, and maybe a dozen saved GIFs, you're looking at three, maybe four megabytes," said one analyst. "A gigabyte drive is going to sit mostly empty."
The analyst recommended most users stick to a 500MB drive "to avoid paying for space you'll never use."
