BEYOND
IN MEMORY OF WONG KA KUI
黃家駒
10 June 1962 – 30 June 1993
The world holds a thousand songs, but there will never be another Wong Ka Kui. Somebody else made this. I do not know who, and I wish I did.
Welcome to my home page!!
I made this page because nobody at my school has heard of Beyond. Every time I try to explain why that is a problem I do it badly and change the subject, so I am writing it all down here instead, where I can take as long as I like and nobody can interrupt me.
Here is the short version. Beyond were a rock band from Hong Kong. Wong Ka Kui started them in 1983. He sang, he played rhythm guitar, and he wrote most of the songs — more than a hundred of them before he was thirty-one. On 24 June 1993 he fell three metres from a platform while rehearsing a game show for Japanese television, and six days later he died.
My cousin left a tape at our house in 1992 and I never gave it back. That is genuinely the whole reason this page exists.
I am not a good enough writer to make you feel what that tape did. What I can do is put the facts somewhere you can find them, and tell you which song to play first. It is 海闊天空. Play it loud and read the words.
What is on this page NEW!
- His Life — where he came from, and what happened in Tokyo.
- The Songs — six of them, and what they are about.
- Sign My Guestbook — other people who found this page.
- Links — the webring, and where else to go.
If you knew about Beyond already, then hello, I am very glad you are here. If you did not, please just listen to one song before you close this. One song is all I am asking for.
