Marisol came to design theory sideways, through a doctorate on negative theology — the tradition of describing the divine only by what it is not, because anything you say positively is already too small. She noticed the same move everywhere once she started looking for it: the blank silk in a Yuan dynasty scroll, the rest in a bar of music, the sentence Hemingway cut from the end of a paragraph. Via Negativa is the course that resulted from taking that noticing seriously enough to teach it.
She holds office hours by the same rule she teaches: come with the thing you cut, not the thing you kept, and be ready to say why the cut was the harder decision.
