# The Last One - Working Screenplay

**Genre:** post-apocalyptic absurdist comedy
**Planned duration:** approximately 3 minutes
**Principal characters:** the Survivor, the Delivery Rider and Lucky

## Directing principles

- The opening minute must play as a sincere post-apocalyptic film.
- The audience receives information through the Survivor's limited point of view.
- Performances remain restrained. Comedy comes from the collision between an apocalyptic interpretation and ordinary behaviour.
- When the Survivor's or Lucky's attention changes clearly, the camera may follow with a small, motivated adjustment.

## Act I - No one again today

Black screen. An old emergency broadcast breaks through static:

> "Emergency shelter notice..."
> "All residents should find shelter immediately..."
> "If anyone can still hear this..."

On an abandoned road, the Survivor searches ruined buildings in a gas mask with a rifle on his back. Lucky stays close. The Survivor opens an old door, searches a room and checks a cupboard. Both are empty.

From high ground, he scans the abandoned village through binoculars. The camera follows the direction of his search. Nothing moves.

## Act II - Home

At dusk, the Survivor and Lucky return along the road to a mountain bunker.

> **SURVIVOR:** Home, Lucky.

Inside, he draws a large red cross over the final unexplored area on a wall map. He steps back and studies the map in silence, then crouches beside Lucky and strokes his head.

> **SURVIVOR:** Nothing in the east either.
> Looks like it really is just us now.

## Act III - The last supper

The Survivor opens a can of chickpeas and places a small bowl in front of Lucky. Lucky sniffs it, then turns his head away.

> **SURVIVOR:** Don't be picky.
> There isn't any meat now.

The Survivor eats a spoonful and forces himself to chew.

> **SURVIVOR:** No delivery either.

The moment he finishes, a heavy knock lands on the iron door.

> **SOUND:** THUD.

The Survivor and Lucky turn together. The camera follows their attention toward the door.

## Act IV - The person outside

The room is dark. A light switch clicks. The Survivor now carries his rifle; Lucky lowers his body and growls. Two more knocks sound.

> **SURVIVOR:** Who is it?!

No answer. He moves closer.

> **SURVIVOR:** Are you... are you human?

After two seconds of silence, an unfamiliar male voice answers through the door.

> **VOICE:** ...I think so.

The Survivor lowers the rifle slightly. His eyes fill with hope.

> **SURVIVOR:** Three years... Three years... I finally-

The voice interrupts in an ordinary professional tone.

> **VOICE:** Order ending 3721?
> Your delivery.

The Survivor freezes.

## Act V - Opening the door

The Survivor approaches the handle and slowly pulls the heavy door inward. Exterior light widens across the bunker. A strip of yellow uniform appears, followed by a Delivery Rider holding a phone and delivery bag as if this were an ordinary stop.

> **RIDER:** Order ending 3721. That's you, right?
> **SURVIVOR:** ...Yes.

Lucky steps toward the Rider. The Survivor pulls him back.

> **SURVIVOR:** Don't go near him. We don't know if he's infected.
> **RIDER:** Infected with what?
> **SURVIVOR:** The virus.
> **RIDER:** I had a medical last month.

The Rider checks the order.

> **RIDER:** Beef rice, no coriander.
> **SURVIVOR:** I ordered that three years ago.
> **RIDER:** Then it is definitely quite late.

The Survivor grips the Rider's shoulders.

> **SURVIVOR:** How many of you are there?
> **RIDER:** At our depot? Seventeen.

The Survivor releases him and looks down at Lucky.

> **SURVIVOR:** Seventeen more people. Humanity isn't extinct.

## Current production boundary

The full outline continued beyond this moment, but the completed production ends at Shot 21. Shots 22-47 remain planned rather than produced. The workshop version therefore closes here instead of presenting placeholders as finished scenes.
