Before tutoring, Idris spent three years cataloguing church record collections, which is where the habit that shapes this course’s tutorials comes from: always ask what kind of document you are looking at, who kept it, and why it survived. Conference minutes, affidavits and letters of appointment all make different kinds of claims, and splinter groups produced all three in quantity while arguing about who the real church was.

Idris runs the weekly lab, holds consultation before each due date, and marks Assignment 1 (“Autopsy of a Schism”). If a source you’ve found doesn’t fit neatly into the week’s framework, bring it — those are usually the more interesting tutorial discussions.
