Noticing log
The semester-long journal of your weekly practicum entries, submitted together near the end of term
Due: 3 May 2027 · Weight: 15%
The brief#
Keep a running log across the semester: one dated entry per practicum, written as close to the experience as possible. This is raw material, not a polished essay — the point is a record you couldn’t fake after the fact, because it’s timestamped as you go.
An entry that says “tried the induction, felt basically nothing, wrote this at 11pm annoyed about it” is worth more here than a smoothed-over paragraph written in week 12 pretending certainty it didn’t have in week 4. Consistency matters more than any single entry’s polish — the log’s value is in what changes, or doesn’t, across ten tries.
Where an entry was funded by that week’s experience grant, attach the dated receipt alongside it. A receipt is evidence of the same kind as the timestamp: it says the money actually went where the entry claims it did, on the day it claims.
What you submit#
The whole log as one document, covering weeks 1–10, submitted intact at this week’s deadline (leaving weeks 11 and 12 to run past this submission, which is expected — this assessment closes the first ten weeks, not the whole course).
The spec
The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
- submitted by the deadline, as one document containing a dated entry for at least 6 of weeks 1–10's practicums
- each entry was written during or immediately after that week's practicum, not reconstructed later — entries carry their original timestamp
- entries that didn't go as planned, or where nothing much happened, are included rather than dropped
- any entry funded by that week's experience grant has a dated receipt attached, matching the entry's own timestamp
