Week 5 Seminar: Seal clinic
Matching seal impressions against a dated reference set, then a last check on the attribution note before it's due.
22 March 2027
Before the seminar#
Bring your attribution-note draft, even unfinished. This is the last seminar before it’s due.
In the seminar#
Idris runs the seal-matching exercise from lecture against a reference set of dated impressions, including at least one known forged or recut seal students have to catch without being told which one it is. The last half hour is a swap: exchange drafts with a partner and mark, on paper, the one claim in their note you’d push hardest on.
Afterwards#
The attribution note is due Friday, midday. It should already reflect whatever your partner pushed on — a note that ignores a specific, named objection raised in seminar reads as unfinished, not as confident.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you can match a seal impression against a reference set and say what would make the match strong or weak
- your attribution note draft has been read by at least one other student before submission
