Freya researches persuasive and manipulative interface design, with a particular interest in what happens when persuasion is delivered as a suggestion rather than a demand — a pre-filled reply, a recommended amount, a completed sentence that happens to serve the platform more than the person finishing it. She has spent the last few years cataloguing what she calls “consent by autocomplete”: design patterns where the easiest path through an interface is also the one someone else picked for you.
She joins for a single lecture, in the course’s final week, to connect everything the semester built — completion in text, in code, in images, in forecasts — back to the question of who a suggestion is actually working for.
