In-class activity
Weekly engagement with the sessions themselves — the reconstructions, reviews and instruments run in each week's teaching time.
Due: 28 May 2027 · Weight: 10%
The brief#
Show up to the instrument, not just the room.
Every session runs a short activity — a reconstruction, a review, a designed test — and this component tracks whether you engaged with it as it happened, not whether you can produce a polished version afterward. A rough, honest attempt discussed in the room counts for more here than a clean answer submitted without having done the week’s exercise live.
What you submit#
Nothing separate. This mark is formed from your participation in each week’s in-class activity, recorded by the tutor running that session.
The spec
The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
- a genuine attempt at each week's in-class task, not a completed answer copied in beforehand
- visible participation in the review or discussion that follows the task
How it is marked
Assessed cumulatively across the semester on genuine engagement with each week's in-class activity — attempting the reconstruction, the review, or the instrument the session sets, and bringing a real result to discuss. This is not attendance marking and it is not a fourth artefact — showing up without attempting the week's task earns nothing, and a strong result produced without engaging in the room earns nothing either.
