Tobias is writing a thesis on ahead-of-time translation of machine code to WebAssembly, which makes him the only person here qualified to say what is genuinely new.
His contribution is largely deflationary and entirely useful. Bring him an idea you are pleased with and there is a fair chance he will produce a paper from 2011 that did it first, usually on hardware a thousand times slower. This is not discouragement. Knowing the prior art is how you work out which part of the problem is actually yours.
He tutors the sessions and takes weeks 9 and 10, on the grounds that he is the only one who enjoys them.
