Week 6 Lab: Type in the terminal
Week 6 lab, choose a typeface for the place you actually read, and know why
29 March 2027
The lab about the letters you stare at all day.
Before the lab#
Bring your two-font test: one chosen for legibility, one for feel, and a record of which you reached for while reading real code.
In the lab#
We set up a patched font so your icons stop appearing as empty boxes, then read code together at different sizes and rendering settings to see where a font betrays you across machines. You decide, and declare, whether this setup is optimised for reading or for the screenshot.
Afterwards#
You leave with type you chose on purpose, and an honest label for why you chose it.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- your terminal and editor render a font you chose deliberately
- icons in your bar and prompt come from a patched font that renders cleanly
- you can say whether you optimised for legibility or for feel
