Week 5 Lab: Settling a palette
Week 5 lab, choose a colour system and make it hold across unrelated programs
22 March 2027
The lab where a colour scheme has to become a colour system.
Before the lab#
Bring the palette you applied to your terminal and one other program, and the place they disagreed about what “background” means.
In the lab#
We measure contrast rather than argue about it, then extend one palette across a third and fourth program to find where a scheme breaks and a system holds. If you chose Gruvbox or Catppuccin, defend it. If you rolled your own, defend that harder.
Afterwards#
You leave with a palette that survives contact with new applications, and a contrast figure you can stand behind.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- your terminal and at least two other programs share one palette
- your foreground and background meet a contrast standard you can name
- you can justify your palette against the obvious off-the-shelf choice
