- Email for course-level questions; bring feedback on work to the weekly lab, where there is time to answer it properly.
Marisol convenes SLOP3092 and teaches the odd-numbered weeks. She spent eleven years on payments and settlement systems before moving to the School of Invented Disciplines, which is where the course’s fixation on the double charge comes from: she has written the incident report for that failure more times than she is willing to say out loud.
The argument the course makes is hers: that retrying is a decision somebody has to make on purpose, and that the mechanisms which make it safe each have a limit built into how they work. She will tell you, unprompted, that she spent most of those eleven years treating it as a default.
What to bring her#
Course-level questions: what a week is for, why the assessment asks what it asks, whether an argument you want to make in week 12 is defensible. She would rather be asked whether a plan is sound than shown a finished thing that went wrong.
If you disagree with something the course claims, she wants to hear it in the lab rather than in the feedback form at the end. Week 12 is an assessment in arguing a case, and the semester works better if the arguing starts earlier than that.
Consultation#
One hour after each of her labs, in the room the lab was held in, no appointment needed. Email if that hour does not work and she will find another one — but for anything that can wait a week, the lab itself is faster than email and you will get a better answer.
