Who should I pick?

Week 5

Why it waited until now

Picking a hero is the first decision you make — before the game even starts.

This course held it back for a month on purpose.

You have been learning what a hero does with gold. This week: what a hero turns gold into.

The habit this week breaks

Picking on how a hero looks —

and finding out mid-game that every ability costs mana, and you are a strength hero.

Four attributes, four exchange rates

Strength. Agility. Intelligence. Universal.

Not flavour categories.

Your primary attribute decides what each level — and each item — actually gives you.

Four primary attributes on the left, mapped to what each buys on the right. Strength: maximum health and regeneration. Agility: armour and attack speed. Intelligence: maximum mana, mana regeneration and magic resistance — not spell damage. Universal: attack damage from every point of any attribute. A dagger on strength, agility and intelligence marks that your primary attribute also adds attack damage.

Intelligence does not buy spell damage.

It never has. It is the thing almost everyone assumes.

The line this week turns on

A point of your primary attribute also adds attack damage.

A point of any other attribute does not.

A universal hero gets a smaller bonus — from every point of every attribute.

Same item, different purchase

Two heroes buy the same item

It is worth different amounts to each of them.

That is not a quirk of the item.

It is the attribute system, showing its face in the shop.

Gold’s exchange rate

The same gold pays different amounts to different heroes.

The primary attribute sets the rate.

Week 7 is where you start spending on purpose. This week, just see that the rate exists.

A smaller question in 7.41f

Facets are gone.

Picking a hero is now attributes and abilities — not branches.

This week’s heroes

Sven — strength. Phantom Assassin — agility. Zeus — intelligence.

No abilities taught this week, deliberately.

Each is a clean sample of one attribute, not an interesting hero in its own right. The full kits are on the official hero pages.

This week’s items

Iron Branch. Circlet. A little of everything.

Gauntlets of Strength. Slippers of Agility. Mantle of Intelligence. More of one.

What a beginner actually buys before anything else exists.

After this week

Say what a point of each attribute buys, without looking it up.

Explain why a primary attribute is worth more than the other two.

Read an item’s stat line and say who on your team it is for.
